Where the Struma River carves its path between the majestic slopes of the Belasitsa and Sengelska mountains, the Rupel Gorge is born — a natural air corridor carrying the warm breath of the Aegean Sea deep into the heart of Bulgaria. It is here, where the gentle meets the steep, where the air is heavy with memories and vineyards, that you’ll find our Rupel Winery— wine with lineage, born of the land and the people of this timeless corner of the world.
Nestled at the foot of this scenic gorge lies the village of Dolno Spanchevo — once known as ancient Spancha — where time is measured not by clocks, but by harvests and stories. A land steeped in the legends of Thracians, Macedonians, Romans, Slavs, and even Spanish crusaders. For centuries, grapes here have not been mere fruit — but fate. And wine, not simply a drink, but a tale that journeyed to markets in Gorna Dzhumaya, Sofia, Thessaloniki, Serres, and beyond — wherever the taste of this land was sought after.
Inspired by this bold land — the land of Spartacus and Samuel’s warriors — we do not merely make wine. We revive a spirit. We follow ancient traditions, etched into the blood and hands of our ancestors, and dress them in modern form — wines with character, soul, and sensory expression.
Here, ruby wine has always flowed in abundance — a symbol of health, longevity, and joy. We remember our grandfathers, the heavy oak barrels, the aromas of old wine presses, and the stories shared around the fire, a glass in hand. We know that great wine doesn’t come from land alone — it comes from hands, from respect for nature, and from the wisdom to take only what you can give back.
At Rupel, we believe in balance. We believe the earth must be cared for — nourished with love and respect. Every grape cluster carries a piece of this world, every bottle — a whisper from the past and a promise for the future.
Welcome to Rupel Winery — where wine tells stories.
